I don't have fireflies in my garden - which is a shame... only cats, bees, a dog and the odd dragonfly!! So please settle down with a cuppa, put your feet up and enjoy!

The Alphabet Club - Detention for Letter "H"

"They only met online, but it changed their lives forever"
It's time for "The Alphabet Club" (TAC)

Detention is so not my thing lately.... I always was a goodie two-shoes at school so it was very rare that I had to spend any time in Detention... which is probably why yet again I am late with my Detention post!!!

This month we are looking at the letter "H".  Again this is a letter that doesn't have a lot of spectacular or typical Aussie slang words/sayings attached to it but I have found a few...

Hack it: to tolerate something or to keep up (can't hack it means to give up)
Hair of the dog: an alcoholic drink taken to relieve a hangover (I suspect this isn't a typical Aussie thing these days!)
Half your luck: an expression often indicating envy of one's goodwill can also be a congratulatory remark or best wishes blessing
Hard yacka: hard work
Hassle: to give problems, complications or aggravations
Have a yarn: have a chat with someone
He’s got tickets on himself: person who thinks he is the greatest
He played a Barry: he did shockingly badly (Barry is short for Barry Crocker and rhymes with shocker. Crocker sang the theme tune for the Australian soap Neighbours)
Homestead: main residence on a sheep or cattle station (ranch or farm)
Hoon: idiot, hooligan (generally some idiot that likes to drive way too fast or do burn outs in their cars!)
Hooroo: goodbye

So now onto food.... and we can't have the letter H with mentioning the Hamburger with the lot!!

So what is a hamburger with the lot?  Well....  it must be said upfront that I am not talking about the burgers that are sold via the Golden Arches or HJ's... I am talking about the burger with “the lot” that is only available at pubs, restaurants and take-away or fish and chip shops throughout Oz. Our version of the hamburger must include the following toppings between the bread buns to be truly a burger with the lot:

- Beef patty
- Cheese
- Onion (generally cooked but can be raw)
- Beetroot
· Pineapple slice
- Fried egg (with soft yolk)
- Bacon
- Tomato slice
- Lettuce
- Tomato sauce (or BBQ sauce... I am purest so it's tom sauce only for me!)
- Optional mayo and/or mustard

NB: the burger is traditionally eaten with thick cut hot chips (french fries)!

(Do you know how hard it was to find a picture of a traditional hamburger with the lot? There are so many gourmet versions these days but the pic below is pretty close)

Doesn't that look good enough to eat!!
Our style of burger is so much a part of our culture that the Golden Arches has a burger in Australia called the "McOz" and HJ's has one called the "Aussie Burger".  Neither taste like a real takeaway shop burger but they will do when one is desperate!! :o)

That's it from me for this month's Alphabet Club post...

Hooroo for now!  Happy Stitching!
Hugs xx

If you would like to join in the fun of "The Alphabet Club", pop over to Chiara's blog (The Grey Tail) to see what all the fun is about and link up your post for the Letter "H".  Posting is generally the first Saturday of the month.

March Goals & February Finishes....

Hello! Another month has flown by...  it is getting very boring how quickly time is flying by now!!

I am back to give you a bit of a update and to show you my latest finish!

Finish #7
My latest finish is another Prairie Schooler design... "Winter's Eve".  I stitched this as my Feb ornie for the JCS SAL.

"Winter's Eve" - The Prairie Schooler
Just Cross Stitch Christnas 2015
I stitched this design on a piece of Navy 14ct Aida.... I haven't stitched on Aida for so long so it was quite nice to do so for a change!  The eagled eyed amongst you may notice a mistake or two... and a change in colour!  The bunny and smoke are supposed to be DMC3022 but as I didn't have that in my stash I changed both out.  I think I should have used a darker brown for the bunny as he blends a bit in the snow!  The main boo-boo was just a bit too major to frog everything so I have left it.... for some reason the house is out and of course that put everything else out!  I stitched the border counting from the roof and then when it came to doing the trees I discovered my error! Oops.... never mind I think it still looks ok with the tree tops right up to the top of the border! :o)

Latest finish done.... SAL update to come! :o)

Gifted Gorgeousness SAL 2016 - Update #2

Told you I'd be back again real soon!

As I am sure most of you are aware it was GG day on 15th of the month - which means I am late posting.. again!

But I have a very good reason why.... I picked up one of my old GG pieces on Sunday, and as I was so close to finishing it I thought I would get the last of the stitches in and then I could show you a finish!

So here goes...

Lizzie Kate - Joyeux Noel
Giveaway win from Kay's Random World - link to Kay's original giveaway post here and link to my post about the giveaway win is here

Tiny Tidings XV - Lizzie Kate
The last time that you saw 'Joyeux Noel" was in the August 2015 update when it looked like this:

"Joyeux Noel" - Designer: Lizzie Kate
as at August 2015
And now it is finished......

Finish #6
Joyeux Noel - Lizzie Kate's Tiny Tidings XV

"Joyeux Noel" - Designer: Lizzie Kate
Finished: 16 February 2016
The chart does suggest stitching a gold bow charm to the top of the "O" in Noel but as I don't have the LK embelishment pack for the charts I don't have the bow.  If I can locate a little bow I will add it but I think it looks ok without it.... after all the gold beads and gold flecked fabric add a nice bit of bling!

So another finish for 2016 ticked off the list.... and another 2015 WIP done and dusted!

Don't forget to visit Jo's blog for the link ups to everyone's GG post for the month.  I am so far behind on reading everyone's blog posts, but I am slowing getting around to seeing what everyone is doing in blogland.

So that's it for me today - 2 posts in one day - goodness me... bet you all nearly fell off your chairs when you saw 2 posts!! :o)

Til next time, happy stitching
Hugs xx

Jo from Serendipitous Stitching hosts the Gifted Gorgeousness SAL.  The GG SAL is about stitching charts/kits or using fabrics & threads that we have received as gifts, won in giveaways or anything that is intended be a gift or giveaway prize... or anything else that you can loosely use the word "gift" for!!  If you wish to sign up for this SAL, click on the button below or the button on my sidebar and you will be re-directed to Jo's blog.

My First Prairie Schooler!

Yes, you read the title correctly!  I have just stitched my very first Prairie Schooler design!  And I loved it... don't know why it took me so long to stitch one!  As usual I am late to the party and I have discovered that I enjoy stitching them just as the designers have decided to stop designing!!

My first PS stitch is "Pumpkin Man".  I stitched him for the Hallowe'en Ornie SAL Blog as February's theme is "Mummies and Monsters".  I always have trouble finding designs for this theme as I am not a stitcher of monsters normally... but when I saw this design I thought he was cute and just the thing for February!!

Finish #5
"Pumpkin Man" - The Prairie Schooler

"Pumpkin Man"
Finished 14 February 2016
The design was published in the Just Cross Stitch Magazine Halloween 2015 issue.  He was very quick to stitch, which was great as a quick finish is just the way I like it!! :o)

I have now started another small Prairie Schooler design which I hope to be able to show you in the next few days as I think it should stitch up quite quickly as well.

So that's it for this post... but I will be back shortly with my GG update and another finish!!

See you then!
Hugs xx

Secret Stitching Sweethearts Blog Hop

Happy Valentine's Day

Jo from Serendipitous Stitching is hosting her annual Secret Stitching Sweethearts Blog Hop today.

The idea behind the blog hop is that we all send a photo of our Valentine's or love inspired stitching to Jo; she then sends the photos out to everyone who has joined in the blog hop... but only Jo knows who got what stitching pic!  It is now up to us to go hopping around blog land and see who has our pic - we then reveal ourselves as the Secret Stitching Sweetheart!

Below is the gorgeous Stitching Sweetheart pic that Jo sent me:

Secret Stitching Sweetheart Blog Hop pic.... who is the mystery stitcher??
Isn't this just the most gorgeous piece of "heart" stitching?  I love the hardanger style heart at the bottom of the main heart.

Now I need to wait til the mystery stitcher reveals herself....

In the meantime, I am going to go over to Jo's blog and start the blog hop to see who received my Secret Stitching Sweetheart picture!  Please join us all over at Jo's blog - link is here

Whether you celebrate Valentine's Day or not.... enjoy your Sunday... and feel the love!

Happy Stitching...
Hugs xx
