I don't have fireflies in my garden - which is a shame... only cats, bees, a dog and the odd dragonfly!! So please settle down with a cuppa, put your feet up and enjoy!

April GG... short and sweet!

As per the last couple of months I have no GG stitching to show you but I did receive a gift.... which is what this blog post is all about after all....

I think I may have mentioned previously that I am in the Stitch from Stash FB group... well... one of the ladies in the group finished a design last month and decided to pass it on to another stitcher, and... I was the lucky stitcher to receive the chart :o)

And here it is:
Papillon Creations - Eightsome Reel

Ali also sent a lovely stitched card... thanks Ali - I can't wait to start it (think it will be a Stitch Maynia start!)

So that's it for this post...  I am so far behind in blog reading and posting... I doubt I will ever catch up!  I know I owe you all a very long update post... so I need to get myself organised and go through my stitching notes to work out what I have to show you.... I generally use my lunch break at work (if I can find some time to have one) to do my blog posts so when things get really crazy pants busy my posting (and reading) goes right out the window.... (and there is no sign of things letting up there anytime soon... so I will have to re-think that posting plan!!  Boss is travelling most of May though so fingers crossed I can find some "free" time to catch up!)

But I have managed to record and upload a couple of Flosstube videos which show some of my progress.. link to my latest video below (I know.. technically if I have time to record I have time to post... right?!?)

This is my longest video yet.... lots of rambling - that's me though... wind me up and let me go! I am a bit like the energiser bunny - I very rarely run out of steam when it comes to talking/rambling on!

But gals/guys... I think I have a new plan....
I am going to actually try and record a video and do a blog post on the same day - that way I should stay up to date on my blog posting and it will be a way to link both medias :o)

Anyway... I will post this now so that I can link my post up to Jo's GG post.... only a week or so late!

Have a great week... and

Til next time, happy stitching

Easter Treasure Hunt Blog Hop 2017

web image
Hi there! Welcome to my part of the Easter Treasure Hunt Blog Hop for 2017..... This is another brilliant blog hop organised by Jo (Serendipitous Stitching)... I have enjoyed taking part over the last couple of years and this year is no exception!

The blog hop is very simple indeed, takes no time at all to participate... and is a great reason to spend the weekend catching up on blogs while eating chocolate and hot cross buns! ;o)

So what do we blog hoppers need to do?  Post a picture of something we have stitched that relates to Easter or Spring, add in the Mystery letter somewhere in the post... and then link to the next person in the blog hop!  Simples! Right? Yep... so let's get on with the hop...

My stitching picture is a brand new finish.... I have held off posting this finish for a couple of weeks just so I could use it for the blog hop...

Easter Card
Freebie - Cross Stitcher Magazine, Issue #42
This sweet card is actually for an Easter Exchange so fingers crossed the recipient has received it before she sees it on my blog....  The original kit included a plain yellow card which I was going to embellish with ribbon... but I didn't really like the card colour so I went for a shopping trip in my stash boxes... and, in my stash of card blanks I found this lovely set of spring styled cards - which I think worked so much better than the plain card (hope my exchange partner likes it)

Ok... so that is the Easter/Spring inspired stitching... now onto what you are all looking for - the mystery letter!

So, now that you have collected the letter "N" from me... you need to hop along to the next blog on the list (link below) and collect more letters til you have the mystery phrase.

The final step after visiting all the blogs, collecting the letters and working out the mystery phrase is to hop over to Jo's blog and leave a comment with what the mystery phrase is. Can't wait to find out what it is going to be this year :o)

Ok... so where are you going to next?  Click on the image below and you will find yourself visiting with DJ at Tickled Pink in Stitches.

Say hi to DJ for me.... Enjoy the blog hop and don't forget to collect your letters and head over to Jo's blog to leave a comment with the mystery phrase.

Til next time, happy stitching!
Happy Easter to you all
Hugs xx

Smalls Check In - March 2017

The Smalls SAL is hosted by Stitching Lotus

Late again.... I had planned to get this post up over the weekend but time got away from me and here we are, it's Wednesday and I am finally getting myself organised and posting! Oh well... that's life!

So what do I have to show for the March Smalls post?  Mainly all mini finishes this month - no real stand alone Smalls, but a finish is a finish, right?

Halloween Happiness (Sandra Cozzolino)
Fabric: 28ct plain purple fabric
Threads: all DMC

Finished the EE's complete with their spiders and cobwebs.  Technically this is one whole design but I have broken it down into parts for another SAL so each part is a mini-finish in my book :o)

Update pic of the whole project so far below

12 Days of Christmas - Plum Street Samplers
Fabric: 28ct Jobelan "Gold Digger" - Colour Cascade Fabrics
Threads: Jodryi Designs (Wuthering Heights, Sense & Sensibility, The Olde Curiousity Shoppe, Into Midnight)

I managed to get both Day 2 and Day 3 finished in March.  Day 2 should have been finished in February but it sneaked over into March by a couple of days...
Day 2
Day 3

Lakeside Fantasy SAL - Durene Jones
Fabric: 28ct Jobelan "Silver Springs" - Colour Cascade Fabrics
Threads: DMC, Border - "Heliotrope" Cottage Garden Threads

December is finally done!! I have started January, February and March but my March goal was to finish at least one of the blocks during the month, so I concentrated on December for a few days.  So without further ado... let me present "Girl with Robin" (sounds like a famous painting, doesn't it?)
and last but not least....

Snow Story: Warm Hearts - Lizzie Kate
Fabric: 32ct Belfast "Into the Blue" - Stitches & Spice
Threads: Weeks Dye Works as charted

I showed this one on my WIPocalypse post but it also belongs here as it is a Small in its own right - I just decided to stitch them on one piece of fabric.

So that's it from me for this month....  To see everyone's Smalls posts for March, pop over to Heather's blog and check out the link up post.

Next Month – The next Smalls SAL check-in will take place on Friday, 28th April 2017 (no guarantee when my post will appear though!).

See you next month! Happy Smalls stitching
Hugs xx

WIPocalypse Check In - March 2017

WIPocalypse is hosted by Measi's Musings
WIPocalypse is run by Melissa over at Measi's Musings and is now in it's 6th year (amazing!).  The object of the WIPocalypse is to stitch on projects that you want to complete before the end of the world!

At the beginning of January I picked out 17 WIPocalypse projects to work on in 2017.  The full list of my 17 projects can be found on my WIPocalypse 2017 page.

So what did I manage to work on during March?

Definitely more progress on my regular WIPs this month and there is some progress to show on two other WIPs that came out of the basket during March as well.  Progress pics below for your viewing pleasure:

Deer and Grapes Mystery SAL (Jean Farish)
This is where this project was when you last saw it at the end of February:
28 Feb 2017
It now looks like this:
26 March 2017
I do a minimum of 17 stitches a day on this project and it is growing quite quickly now.

Faces of Joan Elliot (Joan Elliot)
This one didn't appear in my February update.... but it is here in March!  No more progress on the Holly Fairy - instead I started the Unicorn

12 Days of Christmas (Plum Street Samplers)

Third Day is almost done.... but I am going to leave the update photo for now and show you at the end of the month once it is completed

Halloween Happiness (Sandra Cozzolino)

Next themed part of this design (2 x E's) is also close to a finish - I will have a finish photo at the end of the month for this one also.

Snow Story (Lizzie Kate)
The last time I showed this one on my blog was at the end of Dec 2016 when I finished the "Cold Hands" section.
Stitched on 32ct Belfast - "Into the Blue" from Stitches and Spice
Threads: Weeks Dye Works
Dec 2016
During March I managed to finish the middle section (Warm Hearts)
March 2017
Only one more section to do on this now and it will be finished!

Mini Mandala II - C (Chatelaine)
Another WIP that made it's way out of the WIP basket this month for some love is my Chatelaine. This is the third Mini in the Mini Mandala II pack.  The last time I showed it on my blog there wasn't a lot to show.
Sept/Oct 2016
March 2017
I just love the colours of the outer centre piece.  The variation in the NPI silks is subtle but makes for a stunning change to the blue in the very centre.  I think I will have to stitch on this one again during April as it starting to call my name already!

So that's the update bit out of the way.... now onto the question of the month:

What stitchy blogs, groups, or flosstubes do you follow and why?
Well... that is a good question!

Blogs: I have been following blogs for a number of years now.. I started reading blogs around 2009 and started blogging in Oct 2010.  During that time I have collected a considerable number of blogs on my reading list.  I do have a blog roll list on my side bar which will give you an idea of who I follow and try to read as often as I can.  A lot of the blogs I follow are the "oldies" who have been blogging for a number of years.  I started reading them as a source of inspiration for my stitching and as a way to make connections with people who also have this mad obsession with stitching as I do!

Groups: I am in a huge number of FB groups - some of which I am more active in than others.  I love the designer groups - it is great to see how people interpret the designs and seeing designs stitched/finished often is better than seeing the original model piece (as we all know that the model photos don't always do the finished piece any justice!)  Besides the designer groups, I love the FB group "Stitch Maynia" - they have some great SAL's each month which are a great reason to get stitching on some of those unloved WIP's as you can stitch on anything at all as long as you can shoe-horn it into SAL theme!  There are a couple of other FB groups that also have great SAL's that I am also in... "Cross Stitch It's Fun", "Stitch from Stash", "Cross Stitch Finish Line" to name a few :o)

Flosstube: now there is a rabbit hole that you can go down and never come out of!!  I really enjoy watching Flosstube while I am travelling to work each day on the train, sometimes while stitching on the weekend, and always when I am doing my ironing/washing folding on a Sunday morning!  It's a great way to make those menial tasks a lot more palatable!  I do have some favourites that I have to watch (Vonna, Kay's Cross Stitch, Stash Queen, Queen of Starts, Stitcherista, Ms Oh Sew Crafty, Coffee Stitcher, Jessie Marie, Dena - the list goes on and on...) and then there are all the new people (like me) that appear each week... I don't think I will ever catch up on them all!

There is a distinct change in the stitching world these days and Blogging, FB and Flosstube are all great ways for people, both new and old to stitching, to find out more about designers, fabrics, threads, what works and what doesn't - the list goes on!  I hope that blogging stays around for a long time and doesn't get swallowed up by FB and Flosstube (even though I am involved in both of those as well!).  You never forget your first love :o)

So that's it for the March's WIPocalypse update!  Next month's check in is on Sunday 30th April 2017.  If you want to see what everyone else has posted, drop into Measi's blog and check out the March link up page.

Til then, happy stitching and good luck with your WIPocalypse projects!

March GG post... late again..

Epic Gifted Gorgeousness stitching fail this month.... I have no stitching to show you that qualifies for a GG post ;o(

but....

I did win a giveaway! :o)

I won Linda's "guess the number of WIPs/UFOs" giveaway - link here to giveaway win announcement post.  My prize was a gift voucher to 123 Stitch.... thank you Linda :o)

I placed an order yesterday and I can now reveal which item that I used my gift voucher to purchase...

Fur-ever Friends (Linen) - Cross Stitch Kit by Mill Hill
(designed by Laurel Burch)

I thought that this gorgeous chart was very appropriate, not just because it's been on my wish list for some time, but because Linda's blog is called "Stitchin with my furbabies" and I do stitch with my fur babies every day... so it fits me down to a tee :o)
Thanks Linda... I am very happy to have won your giveaway.. and I can't wait to start stitching this cute kitty and puppy!

So that's it for this small but exciting post!  I will try and pop back tomorrow and show you a progress report on my stitching.

Til next time, happy stitching
hugs xx

Progress Update - February 2017

web image
Hi there!  I thought I would do a quick post to show you some of the other things that I stitched on during February.  You have seen some of the February stitching already in the Smalls and WIPocalypse posts, but there were also some others that got a little bit of love...

New starts (and there were a couple!) and WIP progress

Dragon Birthstone SAL - Ingleside Imaginarium
Started February (Amethyst Dragon)
Also stitched some more on the January Garnet Dragon

Lakeside Fantasy SAL - Durene Jones
Started February (Mermaid)
As you can see not a lot happening with this... I need to get stitching and finish off December, January and February... and start March!

Cross Stitch, It's Fun / Stitchwats - Weekly Challenge - Meliciously Happy
7 Starts in 7 Days - minimum of 50 stitches per start
Each start had a theme around being happy....

Start #1: Garden Boots - Mill Hill Kit

Start #2: Honey Bee Card - Free Gift Cross Stitcher Magazine
Start #4: Happy Easter Card - Free Gift Cross Stitcher Magazine

Start #5: Bumble Bee Card - Free Gift Cross Stitch Crazy Magazine

Start #6: Frog Card - Free Gift Cross Stitch Crazy

You may notice that I didn't show you Start #3 and Start #7 from that challenge here... that is because they are both finished and are mentioned in my Smalls Post (Tulip/Spring Card & Pig fridge magnet).

The free kits from the UK cross stitch magazines really come in handy for these types of challenges!

Dog Park - Satsuma Street
10 A Day Project (FB Group)
When I last showed you this one it looked like this (top middle pic in the collage):

It now looks like this.... for the most part I am sticking to the 10 stitches a day... but every now again I will do 11 or 12 if I need to finish a section or a thread.  I got a little bit bored stitching yellow and moved over to the blue and green tree.

So that's it for this progress report.... March has begun and there will be lots more stitching to come I'm sure!

Til next time, happy stitching ;o)

WIPocalypse Check In - February 2017

WIPocalypse is hosted by Measi's Musings
WIPocalypse is run by Melissa over at Measi's Musings and is now in it's 6th year (amazing!).  The object of the WIPocalypse is to stitch on projects that you want to complete before the end of the world!

At the beginning of January I picked out 17 WIPocalypse projects to work on in 2017.  The full list of my 17 projects can be found on my WIPocalypse 2017 page.

So what did I manage to work on during February?  Pretty much the same projects as last month!

Deer and Grapes Mystery SAL (Jean Farish)
This is where this project was when you last saw it at the end of January:

It now looks like this:

12 Days of Christmas (Plum Street Samplers)
Second Day is almost done....

Halloween Happiness (Sandra Cozzolino)
Mini finish - the witch and her familiars are done

Isn't she just so cute!

So that's the update bit out of the way.... now onto the question of the month:

What is your favorite stitch other than the standard cross stitch?  (bonus points if you provide a how-to link or diagram it on your blog post!)

I am not sure if I have favourite stitch other than the standard cross stitch... but I will admit that I am one of the weird ones that actually likes doing back stitch! I think that back stitch gives a design definition and often lifts the design from drab to amazing!  There are some designs that don't need it, but for those that do, back stitch really brings out the features.  Margaret Sherry is one designer that uses a lot of back stitch to bring out the characters in her designs.

Below are two pictures of something I prepared before which shows exactly what I mean:
Before back stitch
(progress pic - more cross stitching was also needed before this was finished!)
Final finish...
the mouse really stands out after the back stitch is added
As far as instructions go... there are heaps of tutorials out there in the stitching world in various forms (ie web, magazines, books, blogs).  A quick search of the interweb bought up the following diagram and instructions for basic back stitch from Sublime Stitching

Make a single, straight stitch (1-2) as long or short as you want. (I make mine approx 1/4" or a bit shorter.) Continue along your pattern line, but come up a space ahead (3) and bring your needle back down into the same hole at the end of the last stitch you made.

Another good tutorial for back stitching with cross stitch patterns can be found on the Scarlett Quince website - link is here

So that's it for the February's WIPocalypse update!  Next month's check in is on Sunday 26th March 2017.  If you want to see what everyone else has posted, drop into Measi's blog and check out the February link up page.

Til then, happy stitching and good luck with your WIPocalypse projects!
Hugs xx
